UPPER BANN INSTITUTE GAIN A FIRST IN DELIVERING NEBOSH CERTIFICATE
Once again Upper Bann Institute in conjunction with Health and Safety Services (HASS) has excelled in recent results in the NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate. The class achieved a 100% pass rate – a first for any Northern provider of this qualification and a first for NEBOSH!
Of the seventeen students who undertook the qualification, 3 received distinctions, 9 credits and 5 passes.
The NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate has been designed for managers, supervisors, employee representatives and those embarking on roles with fire safety responsibility and aims to equip holders to contribute to the conduct and review of fire risk assessments and fire preventive and protective measures within most workplaces.
This course is delivered at Upper Bann Institute’s Portadown campus by Dolores Gorman of HASS. The results are a credit to the students of UBI, but also Dolores who consistently delivers high performance in tuition achieving unfailing high pass rates in all the NEBOSH courses that she delivers.
UBI’s Director Mr Jim Crooks says “At UBI we put a lot of effort into helping others achieve their success because we know that this is how we ultimately succeed as well. Our strategic role means that even if we are unable to deliver the exact course that an employer wants, we will look for a partner who can meet our quality standards and who will work with us to meet local companies’ needs. The NEBOSH results have been achieved through our pursuit of quality and out of an absolute commitment to meeting training needs locally. We are delighted with our ongoing partnership with Dolores and our portfolio of courses just grows and grows. We are proud to be associated with Dolores and with the hard work and application of the participants on the NEBOSH Course. Well done!”
Dolores Gorman says in June 2006 we had 19 students entering the first sitting of this new NEBOSH course. Many of these students had studied with UBI/Health and Safety Services before. We are overwhelmed by the success of these candidates and also those candidates who set NEBOSH Construction and General Certificate courses who also achieved exceptional results. NEBOSH is a nationally recognised awarding body and it is a real honour to see so many students obtaining these exceptional results. Their success will provide the knowledge and skills many businesses need to improve standards of health and safety. These results are a credit to Health and Safety Service successful partnership with UBI.
| | Press Release Fire Safety and Risk Management Should be a Priority
Health and Safety Services is leading the way in Northern Ireland offering the new NEBOSH Certificate Fire Safety and Risk Management course at the Upper Bann Institute Portadown. As one of only 13 providers in the UK, Health and Safety Services with Upper Bann Institute were the first providers in Northern Ireland to offer this award. In June 2006 all 19 students received outstanding results with a 100% pass rate including 3 distinctions and 9 credits. This course aims to help organisations and their safety personnel to prevent fire before it starts by assessing risks fully and putting suitable preventative measures in place. It also helps Fire Service personnel to develop their underpinning knowledge of fire and health and safety. For example, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has become the first Fire Brigade to pilot this course and, if successful, it is their intention to deliver this course to all their Brigades’ Inspecting Officers.
The NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate aids the management of fire safety risks within the workplace in line with the new Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 which comes into effect in England and Wales on 1st October 2006 and a future date in Northern Ireland.
The course is 5 days for those holding a NEBOSH General Certificate Qualification and 10 days for those who do not. The National Examinations Board in Occupational Safety and Health is the leading Health and Safety awarding body in the UK. They offer a suite of qualifications designed to meet a variety of needs amongst those with professional responsibility for health and safety and the environment. Health and Safety Services offer the NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma, The General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health, The Construction Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health and now the new Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate. | | Press Release Upper Bann Institute’s Portadown campus was the setting for a recent celebratory event held in honour of those students who successfully gained NEBOSH qualifications through the Institute. Eleven students graduated on the day with a qualification in the NEBOSH Construction Certificate with fifteen successfully gaining their NEBOSH General Certificate.
NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) qualifications are recognised and respected by employers in all sectors of the economy and provide the benchmark standard against which others are compared. NEBOSH was the first health and safety awarding body to have been given accreditation by the government's Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and prospective students can be assured that a NEBOSH qualification provides evidence of real achievement.
Michael Sharkey from ISOH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) was in attendance at the esteemed event and spoke of the high standard of qualification the students had received; “This is a wonderful celebration of what these students have achieved here at Upper Bann Institute. Only eleven distinctions were offered in these NEBOSH qualifications throughout the UK and six of those came from Upper Bann Institute – which highlights the quality of the teaching and learning provided here. This qualification will give employers added confidence that the advice these employees are giving in Health and Safety is reliable”.
Upper Bann Institute provides a number of NEBOSH qualifications namely; NEBOSH General Certificate; Construction Certificate; Fire Safety & Risk Management Certificate and; NEBOSH Diploma. These are offered in conjunction with tutor Dolores Gorman,
Managing Director of HASS (Health and Safety Services). Health and Safety Services is a young, dynamic and innovative company which has brought together highly experienced tutors and trainers who are all competent professionals working in a wide range of occupational fields.
Audrey McKeown, Head of Development at Upper Bann Institute speaks of the relationship between the two organisations; “Here at UBI we are delighted to host so many of the NEBOSH qualifications and work in partnership with Dolores Gorman. These qualifications represent our greatest growth area in training provision within Industry, which just goes to show how popular and worthwhile these qualifications are. In fact the very first time we were enrolling for the NEBOSH Diploma we had queues of people at our doors hoping to obtain a place on the course. “
Dolores Gorman also spoke at the event of how both UBI and HASS are forging the path ahead for the provision of NEBOSH training.” UBI was the first provider in NI for the Level 6 NEBOSH Diploma and the first to offer the NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Management Certificate. We think this is a great achievement and we are proud to be leading the pack and not following it. We know that employers are looking for well trained health and safety professionals and we are dedicated to helping people gain these qualifications”
